Private Gardens of Florence and Tuscany

Much later a number of talented landscape architects, inspired by their Renaissance predecessors, constructed gardens for the Anglo-American community who settled in Tuscany in the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries.  

With the renowned garden authority Robin Lane Fox to guide us, we will visit the finest of these gardens, and in many cases will be entertained by the owners, including La Foce, the creation of the writer Iris Origo, Harold Acton’s villa and garden La Pietra and Villa Gamberaia, which Acton rated the finest of all Tuscan gardens. The tour also gives you an excellent chance to compare the cities of Florence and Siena, whose age-old rivalry inspired many of the greatest works of the Renaissance.

Cost: £4,950. This includes Half Board in a Deluxe room plus three dinners, all visits, lectures and coach trips. We reserve the right to adjust the price should there be a significant alteration in the rate of the exchange. Please note that the cost of air travel is not included.

Hotel: The Helvetia Bristol has long been our favourite hotel in Florence, ideal for its old-world charm, very central location and recent chic refurbishment. We will stay here for the first two nights and then move on to Relais Borgo Scopeto, a very pretty agricultural hamlet, now a luxury hotel, 14 miles from the centre of Siena.

Single Rooms: There will be a supplement of £800 for single occupancy of a double room.
