For all lovers of early Flemish painting, this is a fascinating time to visit Flanders.
The Ghent altarpiece by Jan and Hubert Van Eyck is currently being restored. A series of special exhibitions are being mounted in Ghent to celebrate this important event. You will have a unique chance to study in detail the most important achievement of the Flemish Primitives.
Our hotel is housed in an old palace in the charming city of Bruges, filled with beautiful works of art, notably paintings by Hans Memling in St John’s Hospital. Antwerp was the home town of Pieter Paul Rubens and contains some of the greatest works by the master. We end the tour by visiting the unparalleled collection of Flemish Primitives in the Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. We will also be lunching in some fairytale, moated houses in the Flemish countryside where we will be entertained by the owners.
